Information: The town's churches and chapels provide the background for its choral history, but the current choir which was formed in 1969 has its origins in the local rugby and cricket club. Many choir members are farmers living in a fifteen mile radius of Builth Wells, but there are also men from all aspects of community life, many of whom have moved into the area "from off" (other parts of Wales and over the border). The choir gave it's first performance in nearby village of Garth on April 20th 1970, and from this successful but simple beginning the choir has gone on to sing in many parts of Wales, England, Scotland, and has made four excursions into Europe. The choir has participated in radio and T.V. programmes and has participated in many mass choral events including the "London Welsh 1000 Voices" at the Royal Albert Hall, and the Welsh Association of Male Choirs at St David's Hall in Cardiff. We are no strangers to the hallowed turf of Cardiff Arms Park either. Further details are available in Abram Davies' (founder member), "A personal impression of Builth Wells Male Choir". Copies are available from the Treasurer.
